Spike Wademan

While he is best known for his aviation and marine paintings, recently Spike, has started to paint New Zealand's majestic mountains which he has called home for over the past 20 years.  With every brush stroke he captures the light and detail of the South Island's epic alpine landscape.

After a long and successful career in the advertising and publishing industries as a commercial illustrator, Spike has now turned his hand to creating realistic oil paintings.

Spike has exhibited in the USA, Australia and New Zealand, and many of his paintings hang in private collections around the world. He has won many local art awards and teaches drawing & painting classes regularly to both adults and children.

AVIATION ART

Spike’s love of aviation comes from his late father Robert Wademan who was a Spitfire Pilot in WW2.

Spike grew up listening to his stories of dog fights, camaraderie, bravery and tragedy in the skies which fuelled his imagination.

From an early age Spike loved to draw scenes from his father’s stories, and as he grew up, so did his technical understanding of each plane and also its historical context.

Spike’s paintings are carefully researched. Each canvas captures a moment in history when men pitted themselves against each other and the sky to survive.

Spike mostly paints in oils on very fine canvas and welcomes commissions. Please enquire with us, and we will help co-ordinate this for you.
