Judy Curnow

Judy Curnow is an established NZ artist whose work is instantly recognisable for its colour, clarity and sense of joy. She paints with a generosity of light and detail that turns garden, landscapes, and still life subjects into places of warmth and abundance.

Predominantly self-taught, Judy's artistic journey took a defining turn when she was personally mentored by acclaimed New Zealand landscape master Tim Wilson. Under his guidance she refined her technique and developed the distinctive style that saw her work exhibited in the prestigious Tim Wilson Gallery in Queenstown, a significant milestone that established her reputation as a contemporary NZ landscape artist.

Since then, Judy has exhibited throughout New Zealand, including a sell-out exhibition in Akaroa. Her paintings are held in private collections across New Zealand and internationally, while her botanical artworks were selected for a collaboration with M.M Linen, inspiring the popular Matilda textile collection.

Working in richly layered oils, Judy combines expressive brushwork, vibrant colour and textured surfaces to create paintings that feel both contemporary and timeless. Drawing inspiration from the traditions of impressionism and fauvism while maintaining a style entirely her own, she captures not simply the appearance of a place, but its light, atmosphere and emotional resonance.

"I have many layers of transparent and translucent glazes and I like my work to pop with lush hues and a particular clarity of light. I like to think that I paint with a refreshing spin on the tried and true genres of landscape and still life."
