Drawing inspiration from nature, Michael has been developing unique sculptures from Earth's supply of copper and wood. Working mostly with the precious metal, the repurposed copper is hand cut and then layered to the desired shape before being clamped and brazed.
Michael is an emerging artist with exceptional talent, having been hand-selected by Koji Miyazaki for the Sculpture Festival in Christchurch in 2024. He already has several commissions under his belt and is on request for larger works.
His sculptures often reflect the intrinsic harmony between metal and wood, capturing the essence of both materials in a single, unified form. The copper, with its warm, earthy hue, is meticulously shaped to mimic the fluidity of natural forms, while the wood provides a sturdy yet elegant foundation that complements the metal's lustrous surface. Michael's work is characterised by his ability to tell a story through his sculptures and challenge the boundaries of traditional sculpture.
As Michael continues to evolve as an artist, his dedication to craftsmanship and his passion for exploring new possibilities ensure that his future works will be as captivating and inspiring as those that have already earned him acclaim. Whether displayed indoors or in a garden, his sculptures are a testament to the enduring allure of art that is deeply rooted in the natural world.
