Homer Saddle

From the Available Works Collection.

In Homer Saddle, Nigel Wilson steps away from literal description, presenting the alpine landscape as an immersive presence rather than a fixed scene. There is no road or human trace only the vast, enclosing forms of the Darren Range, rising in dark, weighty planes that dominate the canvas. The mountains are in deep greys and shadowed tones, layered and fractured through a blend of impressionist softness and abstract structure. Their surfaces feel dense and weathered, with subtle variations suggesting ridgelines, and steep faces without ever settling into precise detail. From within these forms, faint streaks hint at waterfalls descending through the range, glimpses that appear and disappear depending on how the viewer looks.
